Is when I see people reblogging this guy - KribKaos
All his stuff is taken from other ABDL artists, both on Tumblr and deviantArt, and posting it without any links to the original artists. He even goes out of his way to post the image to his own account rather than reblog it from the original artist.
So please, do the original artists justice and reblog from their original source, don’t reblog KribKaos
Forgive me if I sound inconsiderate, but just how much damage has KribKaos done? Don’t get me wrong, you should definitely give a little blurb saying “So and so made it, go check him/her out!”, but ultimately, it’s nothing worth doing a PSA-style announcement about.
He’s not stealing money from anyone, because he’s not hiding it behind a paywall.
He’s not taking credit for the images. Hell, you can still see the artists’ signatures on some of the images!
I doubt he’s stealing away views away from the original artists, since most people go on deviantArt, FurAffinity, or any other art site for these images. Do you really think most people only peruse Tumblr for their diaper art fix?
So please, explain to me exactly why this is worth bringing up. I’m genuinely curious, because from what I can tell, it’s benign.
It’s damaging because it cuts off the connection from the original source. When you just go and post an image without its source, and people begin to reblog the stolen content over the original content, it prevents people from being able to discover the artist’s work.
KribKaoS has literally gotten hundreds of notes on images that could have been directed towards their original creators. And he’s gotten almost 2,000 followers in only a few short months of being active. I’ve been on this website for over 2 years and I’ve barely beaked over 1,200 followers. Uploading content that’s not your own blocks off support for the original artist.
And I created the PSA because I have friends on here, friends who are artists, friends who have had their work posted by KribKaos, who were not aware that their work was being posted there.
And tumblr is a constantly growing art site. It doesn’t matter if it’s here or DA or furaffinity or that he’s not taking credit or not making money off of it.
You do not upload other people’s art without giving credit and providing a source to the original creator. Period.
The thing that bothers me about this, is when people steal and upload other people’s pictures it’s like a witch hunt, but people steal art ALL THE TIME and no one says anything about it. Plus, artists out so much more time into making art then someone taking a picture, even if it is a professional one.
I’ve noticed that too. It seems every time something like this happens, people act like it’s this horrible terrible thing that’s going to ruin artists everywhere if it isn’t stopped immediately. Yet people post diaper art on /d/ without permission all the time, and no one gives a shit about that. And I’ve yet to see a diaper artist wane in popularity just because their art got reposted a bunch.
I think that instead of condemning people that don’t list sources, we should just politely send them a note. “Please add sources to the art you post.” It’s way more productive than what we’re doing right now, even if KribKaoS turns out to be uncooperative.
Please re-read what they wrote. ABAllyCakes is comparing photos to art, not art to art, and they’re doing this as a self-aware content provider themselves. The community is unified in protecting content providers when it comes to photography, but not extending the same courtesy to those who provide art. One reason could be because art is often not seen as an actual job. That it’s just a hobby. Most likely, its more so due to there being an actual face on the former and that’s why I can’t fault others for placing their investments there. Models make a far more extreme *privacy* sacrifice than artists do and that warrants major respect.
It seems to me that where you’re tripping up is comprehending what each platform means and how they effect the artist differently. /D/ is not the same as Deviantart or Tumblr by any stretch of the imagination, so comparing them is a wee bit of a reach. /D/ isn’t social media, it’s a quick moving image board. People do not normally go to /d/ to speak directly to an artist, to ask for a commission or a trade, or form a connection. They visit /d/ to vent, get their rocks off, speak their mind anonymously, and ask for a source IF the piece in question is their particular fancy. Then, three days later, the thread drops off and they begin again. It’s much, much faster and good /d/ etiquette includes knowing to do a reverse image search or check an image’s title in order to find the source on your own before asking for another to do so. Those who do not frequent imageboards (and there are many who don’t!) would not do this.
Tumblr, on the other hand, is more permanent. Once a picture is posted, there is very little point in reposting it. Where a piece of art can be reposted on /d/ a billion million times with each new thread, the adrenaline is gone after the first posting on tumblr, thus making it so an artist missed the train with their own work if they weren’t timely cross-posting it to the other platform.
Furthermore, no one would be condemning anyone if they COULD politely note (or ‘ask’, in this case) the OP. :) But the OP has that option disabled, just as you do for your tumblr, and their archive goes back quite a ways…so, occam’s razor, we can safely assume they want to be left alone and probably for a reason.
Which is why we’re left with this: an artist pours hours of their time into their work, most of which is apparently not commissioned, in hopes of improvement and making connections with like-minded individuals. All they expect in return is a link back to their gallery or a mention so they can keep up the cycle. They speak up in the only way they can because reblogging and commenting has no effect on the OP. This was the option available to them, aside from keeping quiet.
Well, it looks like KrisKaos’ tumblr is down, so I guess he/she won’t be stealing any more art
